How Do You Define Freedom? Do You Truly Live Free??

How do you define freedom?  Does your definition read like Merriam-Webster’s Online Dictionary which defines freedom as:the quality or state of being free; the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action; ease, facility; and the quality of bring frank and open.

Until recent years, freedom is not a concept I actually spent much time thinking about.  Which I find rather odd since freedom is my #1 core value.  I would have defined it as the absence of war, conflict, or commitments, relationships, or responsibilities.  What a small piece of the true meaning of the word.

A few years ago my mentor told me I did not have to do anything.  I was, at first, stunned and thought I had misunderstood.  I mean really,  I was a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, friend.  I was an independent nurse practitioner with a blossoming coaching practice. How could I not  have to do anything?  Really?

The statement “you do not have to do anything” began to soak in on a surface area, then it began to truly saturate my being.  I love my family, my careers, my life.  I grow along with my clients.  I so enjoy writing, expressing my truth and encouraging others to truly life their dreams.  But for me, sometimes, each new thing I added to my life felt like a heavy weight; one more thing I had to do.  I lost sight of why I was doing something in the first place.  New opportunities scared me.  What if I failed?  Can I truly live this way – every day?

A few weeks back, I realized I have been given a gift.  These things are not something I have to do.  They are things I get to do.  I can choose.  In an entirely new expansive way, I actually can allow my yes be yes and my no be no.  I did an exercise I will know I am truly free when: ________ (fill in the blank).

What began to emerge is I will know I am truly free when:

  •  I allow the dreams of G-D come true in my life.

  • I no longer allow fear of what others think slow me down

  • I write because I love it and get to

  • I live my truth 24/7 365 days a year.

  • I allow grace and beauty to flow through me

  • I am filled to overflowing and give out of abundance

  • I receive without hesitation

  • I truly drop in and listen and be sure of what I really want

  • I trust me and my opinion

  • I choose to live free

  • I no longer take myself so seriously -I laugh at my old patterns of perfection and “should, must dos”

  • My sensual (sacred) circle is beautifully strong and intact

Today, freedom is an attitude of remembering this life is a pure gift.  This day is gifted to me.  I no longer require doing things because I have to or I should!  I do them because I choose to, or not.  I have given up compulsion and the need to be perfect.  This is a process and I know I will keep growing until my last breath on the planet.  Because I choose to.  I embrace what is with faith and joy.

My reason for being so boldly transparent and speaking my truth is to inspire you to truly live your freedom.  Until recently, no one showed me what true freedom was or modeled it for me!  No one held sacred space for me until I really got it.  But here I am saying watch the peaks and the valleys. the skinned knees and heart as I learn to live in freedom.  You do not have to wait until you are sixty (60) to truly begin to experience true freedom.  Remember: if I can do it, so can you.

I would love to know your definition of freedom and hear how you live your life!  Do the I will know I am truly free when exercise.  Are you thriving??  Do you truly live free? I really want to know! Together we can remind each other and strengthen and uphold each other.

Thank you for reading!  I look forward to hearing from you!!!

Yours in so much beauty and grace,

Lori
